Why Do Bad Things Happen?

A question all of us ask, especially Christians, is why do bad things happen in life? Why is there so much evil and hatred in the world? I don’t have all the answers but have pondered this and have an experience to share.

God sometimes allows challenging things to happen to others so love can manifest itself. I remember thinking about an acquaintance who was in a car accident and now in a wheelchair. His parents are divorced and his dad has a close, female friend helping with their challenge. I will never forget this. I was driving on the highway and just casually thinking why do things like this happen and the Holy Spirit answered immediately. It is to allow love to manifest itself. The love that this woman has in her heart had not manifested itself yet and God was using this very unfortunate accident to allow this.

Can you also imagine the joy the person in the wheelchair is going to feel when God rewards him and is also able to walk again in Heaven?

Romans 8:28 “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to His purpose.”

Remember, God is a just God. Man is made in the image of God which means man has free will. If man chooses to use that free will for evil bad things are going to happen. God’s ways are absolute and clearly stated in The Bible and learning to listen to your conscience and The Holy Spirit is extremely important. There is no relative meaning to The Bible. For example, if you continually choose to steal or commit adultery bad things are going to pursue. This does not mean God and Jesus do not forgive you if you ask. But constant sin is going to bring bad things into your life.

Why do bad things happen to seemingly good, honest, God fearing people? Faith is needed here that God is working all things for good for those who love Him. I am convinced of this.
